Open floor plan examples
Living, dining, and kitchen share one space. Click a plan to open it, then adjust room sizes or add bedrooms in the box above.
An open floor plan combines living, dining, and kitchen into one shared volume so light and conversation carry through the space. Bedrooms and baths stay enclosed. Open an example below, or describe the great room size and the rooms you still want closed off.
How to make an open floor plan
Size the great room
Give the combined living–dining–kitchen area, for example 24 × 16 ft, or the whole footprint.
Keep bedrooms private
List closed bedrooms and baths off a short hall so they do not open into the cooking zone.
Place the kitchen
Say island vs wall kitchen, and where the sink and stove go inside the open volume.
Check and download
Open the result in the editor, check furniture spacing in the big room, then download SVG or PNG.
What makes a plan "open"
Open floor plans remove most walls between living, dining, and kitchen. That improves daylight and supervision of kids, but it also shares noise and cooking smells. Soft zones — a rug, an island, a change in ceiling — still define seating vs dining without full walls.
Closed rooms still matter: bedrooms, baths, and often a mudroom or pantry. If you only need kitchen examples, see kitchen floor plans. For two-story shells, see two story house plans.
The plans here are conceptual 2D layouts. They are not construction or permit drawings.
Frequently asked questions
What is an open floor plan?
Living, dining, and kitchen share one space with few or no walls between them. Bedrooms and baths stay separate.
Can I still have a private bedroom?
Yes. Describe closed bedrooms off a hall. The examples keep bedrooms enclosed.
How is this different from kitchen floor plans?
Kitchen floor plans focus on the kitchen alone. This page is about the whole open living volume.
Are these construction plans?
No. They are to-scale 2D planning layouts. Use an architect or a licensed designer for construction drawings.
Is it free?
Yes, with no signup. Generation has hourly fair-use limits, and you can download SVG or PNG.
