How to make a house plan

  1. Give the size

    Enter the overall size of the house in feet or metres, for example 30 × 30 ft.

  2. Describe what goes inside

    List the rooms, their sizes, how they connect, and the doors and windows. Add sizes or counts where you know them.

  3. Place doors and windows

    Say which walls get the entrance, doors, and windows, and which way the doors swing, so the house plan shows real clearances.

  4. Check and download

    Review the spacing and walkways, change the description if something does not fit, then download the house plan as SVG or PNG.

Planning a house layout

Start with the entrance and how you move from it to the kitchen and living area; then place the bedrooms where they are quiet. A 3 ft hallway is the usual minimum.

Describe the house in plain English and you get a clean, to-scale 2D house plan with walls, doors, windows, and furniture. It is a planning drawing to test ideas and share with others, not a construction document.

Is the house plan a construction drawing?

No. It is a 2D planning layout for sizes, furniture, and flow. Use an architect, builder, or licensed trade for construction and permit drawings.
