Create a LONG, SKINNY rectangular high school classroom. I can fit approximately 2–3 rows of desks across the width, not 4 or more. The whiteboard and projector are at the short front end of the room. The teacher desk is immediately beside the whiteboard because it must remain near the projector. Students need to be able to see the board without extreme angles. Leave a clear walking path so the teacher can move from the front to the back of the room. Desk arrangement: There are 32 individual desks. Arrange the desks primarily in 2–3 columns across the narrow width, with the remaining desks extending toward the back of the long room. Use individual desks or pairs, rather than traditional groups of 4 during instruction. Students should face the front/board. Stagger the desks slightly when possible so students are not directly behind one another. Do not create a large grid that blocks the teacher's view. Leave enough space between columns for the teacher to walk through.
